Ontario runs one of North America's cleanest grids — and the usual line is that it's basically decarbonized. The hourly generation data tells a less comfortable story: the emissions-free share has slipped from 93% to 80% in five years as natural gas tripled. Here's what the numbers show, and why the "job done" narrative misses it.

About
I analyse energy systems through their data: how electricity grids generate and emit, how that changes over time, and where the public narrative drifts from what the meters actually record. The work starts at the original publisher — system operators, regulators, national inventories — and is validated against known figures before any chart gets drawn.
My standard is simple: a claim is only as good as the data behind it and whether someone else can reproduce it. So the analysis here is transparent about scope, sources, and the places the numbers don't say what people assume they do.
Primary-source data, modelled in a clean star schema and analysed in Python, SQL and Power BI — with every figure reconciled against published totals.
